Like many people, I remember the first time I heard “To Build A Home.” It made my world stand still. Honestly, I stayed away from covering it for years because it’s always felt sacred. This setting felt appropriate. A beautiful hall in a beautiful city in one of my favorite countries with a lovely artist singing the words of one of our favorites, Patrick Watson and The Cinematic Orchestra. when I recorded the original, I lost the hard drive files, so I was forced to reimagine and rerecord it. When I reopened these sessions, it felt like looking through a book of old photographs from a different time. Carla was so respectful of what the piece had been, and I trusted her to serve a new version of it. The importance of space in writing and music is really valuable to both of us, and it allowed space for the call and response. The call and response in English and Spanish fit this long
